At the start of every new year, it's both fascinating and risky (and occasionally entertaining) to speculate about what lies ahead. At Kazarma, we've decided to join the conversation. Independently, of course, we've taken a shot at predicting the trends and developments—some likely, others less so—that we believe will shape 2025.

1.  Nvidia's AI Computer Becomes a Hit

Nvidia is redefining its role beyond traditional GPU production with the introduction of Project Digits, a personal AI supercomputer unveiled at CES. At its heart is the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, delivering powerful AI capabilities previously reserved for massive, energy-intensive systems. Compact enough to fit on a desk and powered by a standard outlet, it supports AI models with up to 200 billion parameters. Starting at $3,000, Project Digits blends high performance with accessibility, housed in a sleek design reminiscent of a Mac Mini. We predict it will sell over a million units in 2024, despite its launch in May.

2.  Breakthrough in Quantum Computing

While AI dominates the spotlight, quantum computing quietly makes strides toward transformative advancements. Unlike traditional computers that use binary "bits," quantum computers operate with "qubits," which leverage superposition and entanglement to solve complex problems exponentially faster. Quantum computing holds potential in drug discovery, logistics optimization, and solving scientific challenges previously deemed insurmountable. We predict that 2025 will see the creation of the first quantum computer that operates without supercooling and can break 100-bit RSA encryption. This milestone will undoubtedly spark global discussions about transitioning to quantum-safe encryption methods.

3.  Apple Will Acquire Snapchat

In 2025, Apple may finally enter the social media landscape through the acquisition of Snapchat. While content moderation poses a significant challenge for Apple, the strategic benefits are compelling. Snapchat's augmented reality (AR) expertise could enhance Apple's ecosystem, drive hardware sales, and create groundbreaking AR experiences. Integration opportunities include seamless device compatibility, the incorporation of Apple Pay into Snapchat, and the development of a super-app ecosystem. Snapchat's strong Gen Z and Millennial user base would help Apple secure long-term brand loyalty. Additionally, Snapchat's advertising platform and AR monetization capabilities would diversify Apple's revenue streams. By leveraging its privacy-focused approach and the newly announced "Apple Intelligence" for moderation, Apple could address the content challenge and cement its position as a leader in AR and social media.

4. First AI Company Claims AGI Status

In 2025, we expect the first AI company to claim the achievement of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Unlike narrow AI designed for specific tasks, AGI is capable of performing any intellectual task a human can, including reasoning, creativity, and adapting to new situations. This breakthrough would revolutionize industries, solve global challenges, and enable intuitive human-AI interactions. Two factors support this prediction: advancements in AI reasoning, exemplified by ChatGPT's rapid evolution, and the digitization of new data sources fueling large language models. These developments will bring us closer to an AI capable of generalized intelligence, setting the stage for a transformative era.
